Hogmanay in Edinburgh
One of the world’s most exciting and famous New Year parties takes place in Edinburgh. Without a doubt this is the only place to see in the New Year! Entertainment is provided throughout the city centre with international street performers, rock music, Celtic bands, Latin Music, open air concert, thrilling fun fair, torch light procession, outdoor skating rink, and a massive fireworks display! In times past the Scots worked over the Christmas period therefore their first major holiday of the year was that which took place on January 1st. The tradition of Hogmanay became more important than the Christmas holiday. Both the 1st and 2nd of January are public holidays in Scotland and you have to be there! Our coach leaves Central London at 07.00 on 30th Dec, but you can join us in Edinburgh is you prefer, and we travel up to Scotland. After checking into the hotel we will make our way into Edinburgh. We will be able to enjoy the festivities of the “Night Afore” that go on during the evening along George Street (free).
On 31 Dec, a lazy morning, we have a whole day to enjoy the sights of Edinburgh. All major attractions will be open today. As the evening approaches, the atmosphere builds as do the crowds for what is now the world’s largest street party. The street party starts this evening with numerous bands and street entertainers performing around the city centre. The New Year is greeted with a massive firework display and the party goes on ... We’ll operate shuttles back to the hotel into the wee hours. Entrance to the street party is included
Maybe sore heads today, so maybe a well deserved lie in and a leisurely breakfast before we take an optional tour to Stirling Castle. Stirling Castle is one of Scotland’s grandest castles due to its imposing position and impressive architecture. The castle's long and turbulent history is associated with great figures from Scotland’s past, such as William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. Entry cost is not included and will be £8.50. We will be able to discover more about the history of Scotland on a guided tour.
Partied out? - a relaxed start to the day. A leisurely breakfast before we depart the hotel. Heading away at midday we make our return drive to London. Along the way we detour to have a visit to Lake Windermere in the Lake District. We aim to be back in London no later than 23.00.
