Aachen was an ancient Roman Spa Town and the home to the court of "Pepin the Short". No fewer than thirty Roman Emperors have been crowned in the city. Destroyed by fire in 1556 the city was rebuilt in Baroque style. At Christmas time, stalls are covered in pretty lights and offer all sorts of delightful produce, confectionary and Christmas gifts.
